What is cross-docking?
Cross-docking is a logistics practice where incoming freight is transferred directly from inbound to outbound transportation with minimal or no storage time. In a cross-dock operation, goods arrive at a facility, are sorted and consolidated based on their destination, and are loaded onto outbound trucks or containers within hours rather than days. Canadian cross-dock operations are common at port terminals in Vancouver and Montreal for container destuffing, at intermodal yards for rail-to-truck transfers, and at distribution hubs for freight consolidation. Cross-docking reduces warehousing costs, speeds up delivery timelines, and is used for merge-in-transit, sort-and-segregate, and flow-through distribution.
“Container volume spiked and our cross-dock couldn’t keep up. Warehouse Bridge sourced additional transload capacity in Brampton within 48 hours.”
End-to-End Cross-Dock Operations
Every facility in our infrastructure is vetted for dock capacity, throughput, and execution. We don't list warehouses. We deploy cross-dock solutions.
Container Destuffing
Import container unloading, palletization, inspection. Cross-referenced against commercial invoices and packing lists.
Floor-Load Conversion
Convert floor-loaded containers to palletized freight. Shrink wrap, label, stage for outbound.
Freight Consolidation
Combine LTL shipments into FTL loads. Reduce transportation overhead through strategic consolidation.
Intermodal Transload
Rail-to-truck, truck-to-rail. Positioned near CN and CP intermodal terminals across Canada.
Sort & Segregation
Inbound freight sorted by PO, destination, or customer. Multi-stop distribution prep.
Staging & Dispatch
Outbound staging, carrier coordination, appointment scheduling. Same-day and next-day dispatch capability.
